Darrell Thompson
7913 N.E. Prescott, Portland--and
S.E. 60th and Duke St., Portland

Darrell is a former cocaine addict in his mid to late 40's, and current alcoholic.  Able to put away a fifth of tequila or bourbon each evening all by himself, Darrell manages to keep his commercial driver's license (despite 7 or more DUI citations on his driving record) and his local truck driver's job, as well as pay for his new Cadillac by setting up meth cooks and other unsuspecting "renters" in the houses that he probably paid for in a similar fashion.

In 1999, Darrell made the basement apartment of his Prescott house available for rent (he owns two houses, both in his ex-wife's name).  He explained that the new furniture, clothing, dishes and kitchen appliances (mostly new, some never even removed from the boxes) were left by the former tenant who "left in a hurry, in the middle of the night".

Darrell, of course, offers to sell the items to the new renter for cheap, rather than having to haul it all out to the dump.  Darrell avoids rental contracts, saying that he prefers "the honor system", and also avoids paying extra taxes and insurance.  Darrell's brother Rick is an active "tweaker" who helps find prospective "renters" with arrest potential.   Rick has a fetish for wearing women's lingerie and has a "wardrobe most women would envy.

When renters show "potential", you can be sure that the local police are in on it from the start. There might be "painters" outside your windows, leaving their tools behind.  This situation is a bust planned from the beginning, otherwise, the new renter is thrown out and another, more suitable victim is sought. Apparently this relationship between Darrell and Portland Police detectives has been going on for some time.
