United States V. Leon Nels Laverdure, case no. 05-30077, D.C. No.
CR-04-00110-SEH (opinion) Montana.
Just try to follow all of this action, notice the time span between
"buys" by different informants, and that these people just knew one
another or they were related, not necessarily "working"
together...here's the "C" word again...and notice that the third
informant is not identified---and must still be out there
somewhere...
Connie Riggs,
a paid informant in Great Falls Montana made a controlled meth buy
from Larson of 1.8 grams, but Connie was unable to get a second buy
from Larson. In October 2003,
Jason Gilstrap
made two controlled buys of meth from Laverdure, of about the same,
a "teener" each time. In December of 2003 a THIRD informant
purchased about a ball from Joy Lynn Poitra and her cousin Rick Lee
Lamere. Then a couple of weeks later the same informant got almost a
half ounce from Poitra.
On July 23, 2004, a federal grand jury indicted Larson, Laverdure,
Potra and Lamere for conspiracy to possess methamphetamine with the
intent to distribute. Because Lamere had priors, he
faced a mandatory minimum sentence of life without possibility of
parole. Both Poitra
and Lamere
took plea agreements where they agreed to cooperate and testify
against Larson and Laverdure, in exchange for reduced sentences. |
